The benefits of chipping with a Hybrid Club

The benefits of chipping with a Hybrid Club

Have you ever felt like your score didn't really reflect how you hit the ball?  All the time we hear you scream!  You post another round 5-10 shots higher than you felt you deserved and leave the course frustrated at what could have been. Well, normally this suggests you haven't been as sharp as you could have been around the green.

If you go back and work out your stats for the round, it's very likely that you frittered your shots away on or around the greens and failed to get up and down as often as you could have done.  So how can we stop wasting shots and start converting more missed greens into pars?

Next time you go out for a few holes practice, try and play a simple greenside chip with either a rescue club or a 3 wood. At this time of year the ground is less than perfect and quite often, the ball can be sat down making it very difficult to get a precise strike on your chip shots. Give yourself more margin for error by using your rescue club. The extra loft over your putter will get the ball over the fringe grass in front of you.

The real advantage of using a rescue club though is the wider sole it has compared to say your shorts irons or wedges.  There is no sharp leading edge that can dig into the turf so this club gives you much more margin for error.  It won't take long to get to grips with how hard you need to hit it and it's so versatile that you can use this technique from a variety of different lies.
